Frequently Asked Questions
If you ever need immediate help, please reach out to a board member. Our contact information can be found here.
What hours do I have to do?
Check out the requirements here.
How do I find out about NHS events and opportunities to complete hours?
Can I complete hours over the summer?
Yes! Up to 4 hours can be counted from summer volunteering for the upcoming fall semester, not including in school events--like Freshman Orientation.
How do I report hours?
The google form to log and report hours can be found here.
Can I complete extra hours that can rollover to the next semester?
No, there are no rollover hours allowed.
I signed up for an event on the website, but cannot make it to the event. What do I do?
We understand that emergencies and illness can prevent you from attending an event, but please remember that your commitment to an NHS event is important and should be taken seriously. If you cannot make an event, please contact a sponsor or board member as soon as possible. It may also be necessary for you to find an appropriate replacement to ensure the success of that event. People are counting on you for the volunteer activity and the success of that event. It also reflects poorly on NHS and Cherry Creek when you fail to show up for an event.
I participate in some other school activities. Can I submit those activities for community service hours?
Your hours should be hours for NHS not for another club or organization. If you are participating in an event that meets requirements for Big Sisters, Excalibur, a charity league, a church/synagogue/mosque, or something similar, then you are meeting commitments for those organizations, not NHS.
I help others with their homework and classes in my free time. Can I submit those hours for tutoring hours?
Probably not. Be sure to speak with a sponsor and get these types of hours approved beforehand. There are lots of opportunities on the NHS website, at local schools, and at local community centers. We also receive special requests from students, parents, and teachers that provide some excellent opportunities. If you are tutoring a sibling, girlfriend/boyfriend, or friend, that is not the same as completing tutoring hours for NHS.
What is a CCHS NHS sponsored event?
Any event that you sign up for on our SignUpGenius counts as an NHS-sponsored event.
I volunteer a great deal and have plenty of tutoring and community service hours. Why do I have to participate in a CCHS NHS sponsored event each semester?
There are several reasons for this. We want to make sure that we can provide enough volunteers for the events that we commit to as an organization. We also want to work on building the community and camaraderie within our chapter.
